Keeping everyone informed about new policies and the progress of existing programs helps build support among students, staff and administration. This is often best accomplished by establishing a "Green Team" made up of representatives from each "stakeholder" group. The Green Team can take ownership of the school's environmental programs and oversee communication of policies to the entire school population, including parents.

Many of the best school programs we found had one thing in common: good graphic design. A bold, colorful logo can capture kids' attention, build awareness and identify locations where activities take place, such as recycling stations. A logo design competition may be a good way to start to build school-wide awareness.

Morning or afternoon PA announcements, school newspapers, and websites provide great opportunities for communicating information to students and faculty. Concert programs, sporting events and local newspapers are also good vehicles for informing the local community about environmental efforts at schools.
